| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Sangamo Club on the |
| 4 | | occasion of the 125th anniversary of its founding; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The Sangamo Club was chartered on April 7, 1890; |
| 6 | | initial members included names that would become synonymous |
| 7 | | with the history of the area; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The first clubhouse opened on June 10, 1890 on |
| 9 | | South Sixth Street; the current clubhouse, on East Adams |
| 10 | | Street, opened in March of 1963; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The philosophy of the Sangamo Club has changed |
| 12 | | over the years as it transitioned from a gentleman's club into |
| 13 | | the social, business, and political nexus it is known as today; |
| 14 | | and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, The Sangamo Club still plays an important role in |
| 16 | | the life of the community; therefore, be it
|
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 19 | | congratulate the Sangamo Club on its 125th anniversary and wish |
| 20 | | it many more successful years; and be it further
