| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Village of Ladd on the |
| 4 | | 125th anniversary of its founding; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ladd was incorporated on June 7, 1890, taking its |
| 6 | | name from George D. Ladd of Peru; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Ladd was originally a construction camp settled in |
| 8 | | 1888 by workers from railroad companies that were extending |
| 9 | | track through the area to serve a grain elevator and coal mine; |
| 10 | | the Whitebreast Fuel Co. purchased 10,500 acres of land in |
| 11 | | eastern Bureau County in and around what would become |
| 12 | | present-day Ladd; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Ladd became a major railroad hub, shipping coal |
| 14 | | via rail to other parts of the country; the population surged |
| 15 | | to over 2,000 citizens by the 1920s; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Throughout the years, residents of Ladd have been |
| 17 | | resilient and have weathered the many problems that they have |
| 18 | | faced, including the Great Depression and World War II, and the |
| 19 | | village is still considered the "Magnificent Little Village"; |
