HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Gordon "Gordy" McCollum began his career in radio
3broadcasting in 1975 as a summer replacement at WQUA in Moline;
4he later became the traffic manager for KRVR in Davenport, Iowa
5in November of 1975; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In 1977, Gordy McCollum moved on to become the
7"Midnight Mole" at WEMO in East Moline, where he was the first
8to introduce album rock to the Quad City area and the first to
9play music by the band Styx; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In 1978, Gordy McCollum moved to the Kankakee
11area, where he worked for WKAN radio for 2 years until he was
12given the opportunity to become station manager for WXJY in
13Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; and
 
14    WHEREAS, When Gordy McCollum recognized his love was with
15music and not management, he returned to WKAN in 1981, where he
16did the afternoon drive program and started his "Sixties at
17Six" program, which was hugely popular due to him bringing
18insight to a new generation of fans to the music; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In 2000, after 19 years at WKAN, Gordy McCollum
20left to go across town to work for WVLI in Bourbonnais, where
21he continues bringing his knowledge and history of music to the

1Kankakee listening area to this day; he also hosts a Sunday
2night show called "Sinatra and the Rat Pack", where he shares
3his passion for the music of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and
4Sammy Davis, Jr.; and
 
5    WHEREAS, An active member of the community, Gordy McCollum
6has served on the board for the American Heart Association in
7Kankakee and has been involved with his local Rotary Club; he
8has also served as the annual Master of Ceremonies of the 4th
9of July Kankakee Valley Symphony concert at Kankakee Community
10College for over 20 years; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13congratulate Gordy McCollum for his 40 years of success in
14radio broadcasting and thank him for his continued service in
15sharing music with the Kankakee area; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Gordy McCollum as an expression of our
18congratulations and appreciation for a job well done.
