LEGO Ladies robotics |
4 | | team from Crystal Lake Community School District 47 on |

competing in the LEGOLAND North American Open |
6 | | championship and receiving the "Rising
Star Award"; and

7 | | WHEREAS, The Lovely LEGO Ladies team is made up of an |
8 | | all-girl group of fifth graders from
Husmann Elementary School |
9 | | in Crystal Lake and West Lake Christian Academy in Grayslake; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, The team, including Maddie Dennis, Molly Wacaser, |
12 | | Allie Klauser, Sammie
Stebbings, and Jocelyn Nieze, concluded |
13 | | its first year of contention in the competition by
qualifying |
14 | | for the North American championships; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, The LEGOLAND North American Open competitions, |
16 | | held in Carlsbad,
California, consist of 4 elements: (i) a |
17 | | research project presentation, (ii) a team-building
activity, |
18 | | (iii) a robot design presentation, and (iv) a session where the |
19 | | robot designed is
programmed to move around a board to complete |
20 | | as many missions as possible in two and a half
minutes; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, The LEGOLAND North American Open competitions |

1 | | included a total of 78 teams,
with only 17 reaching the later |
2 | | stages; the Lovely LEGO Ladies team belonged to the
FIRST LEGO |
3 | | League, which is designed to introduce kids in fourth through |
4 | | eighth grade to the
science, technology, engineering, and |
5 | | mathematics fields; each competing team works to program an |
6 | | autonomous robot to score points on a
playing field; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, The Lovely LEGO Ladies are coached by parents |
8 | | Taryn and Ken Stebbings, who
came up with the idea for a |
9 | | robotics league after they heard about the success of Fruit |
10 | | Salad,
another all-girls robotics team from Crystal Lake; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Apart from receiving such high marks and merits |
12 | | for their extraordinary work in the
field of science and |
13 | | technology, the young girls earned much more than a trophy; |
14 | | coach Taryn
Stebbings stated, "Not only have [the girls] |
15 | | learned about designing and programming a robot,
but they have |
16 | | learned public speaking skills, problem-solving skills, and |
17 | | time and stress-management
skills"; therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
19 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
20 | | commend the praiseworthy
and superb successes of the Lovely |
