HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to applaud the Lovely LEGO Ladies robotics
4team from Crystal Lake Community School District 47 on
5successfully competing in the LEGOLAND North American Open
6championship and receiving the "Rising Star Award"; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Lovely LEGO Ladies team is made up of an
8all-girl group of fifth graders from Husmann Elementary School
9in Crystal Lake and West Lake Christian Academy in Grayslake;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, The team, including Maddie Dennis, Molly Wacaser,
12Allie Klauser, Sammie Stebbings, and Jocelyn Nieze, concluded
13its first year of contention in the competition by qualifying
14for the North American championships; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The LEGOLAND North American Open competitions,
16held in Carlsbad, California, consist of 4 elements: (i) a
17research project presentation, (ii) a team-building activity,
18(iii) a robot design presentation, and (iv) a session where the
19robot designed is programmed to move around a board to complete
20as many missions as possible in two and a half minutes; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The LEGOLAND North American Open competitions

1included a total of 78 teams, with only 17 reaching the later
2stages; the Lovely LEGO Ladies team belonged to the FIRST LEGO
3League, which is designed to introduce kids in fourth through
4eighth grade to the science, technology, engineering, and
5mathematics fields; each competing team works to program an
6autonomous robot to score points on a playing field; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Lovely LEGO Ladies are coached by parents
8Taryn and Ken Stebbings, who came up with the idea for a
9robotics league after they heard about the success of Fruit
10Salad, another all-girls robotics team from Crystal Lake; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Apart from receiving such high marks and merits
12for their extraordinary work in the field of science and
13technology, the young girls earned much more than a trophy;
14coach Taryn Stebbings stated, "Not only have [the girls]
15learned about designing and programming a robot, but they have
16learned public speaking skills, problem-solving skills, and
17time and stress-management skills"; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20commend the praiseworthy and superb successes of the Lovely
21LEGO Ladies robotics team from the Crystal Lake Community
22School District 47 for their impressive feat and wish them
23continued success in their future academic studies and

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the members of the Lovely LEGO Ladies and coaches
4Taryn and Ken Stebbings as a symbol of our sincere praise and
