| 2 | | WHEREAS, Raymundo R. Luna, a member of the United States |
| 3 | | Army, a veteran of the Vietnam War, and an equal opportunity |
| 4 | | advocate, passed away on June 2, 2015 at Morris Hospital; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, In May of 1957, Raymundo Luna graduated from the |
| 6 | | ROTC program at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas and |
| 7 | | was commissioned as a second lieutenant of field artillery in |
| 8 | | the United States Army; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, After serving his beloved country for 20 years, |
| 10 | | Raymundo Luna retired proudly at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel |
| 11 | | in 1979; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Raymundo Luna was awarded 2 Bronze Stars |
| 13 | | after two tours of duty in Vietnam, serving in 1965 and 1966 |
| 14 | | with the 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One) and in 1971 and |
| 15 | | 1972 with the 54th General Support Group; he also earned a |
| 16 | | Parachutist Badge, the Air Medal, the Meritorious Service |
| 17 | | Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, After Lt. Col. Raymundo Luna's highly esteemed |
| 19 | | military career, he served as an Equal Opportunity Specialist |
| 20 | | with the federal government in Chicago; he was then hired by |
| 21 | | the United States Army Corps of Engineers as an Equal |
|

| 1 | | Opportunity Officer; after passing the Illinois State Bar Exam |
| 2 | | in 1985, he joined the Illinois Department of Human Rights as a |
| 3 | | Staff Attorney; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Raymundo Luna was later promoted to Chief |
| 5 | | Legal Counsel, a position he kept within the Department of |
| 6 | | Human Rights for 8 years until his retirement in 2011 at the |
| 7 | | age of 78; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Raymundo Luna was preceded in death by |
| 9 | | his parents, Felix and Francisca Luna; 2 brothers, Felix, Jr. |
| 10 | | and Cecilio Luna; and 2 sisters, Isidra Sanchez and Maria |
| 11 | | Rodriguez; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Raymundo Luna is survived by his beloved |
| 13 | | wife of 53 years, Joan K. Luna; he was the proud father of |
| 14 | | Raymundo, Kirk, Timothy, and Jennifer; the loving grandfather |
| 15 | | of Thomas, Rangel, Erika, Cameron, and Ryan; the dear brother |
| 16 | | of Jesus, Severiano, Soledad, and Felipa; and the uncle of many |
| 17 | | nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 19 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 20 | | honor Lieutenant Colonel Raymundo R. Luna as a great |
| 21 | | countryman, loving husband, father, grandfather, and loyal |
| 22 | | friend and neighbor and pay tribute to his esteemed service to |
