HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives with to congratulate the Sisters of St. Francis
4of Mary Immaculate on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of
5its founding; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis of
7Mary Immaculate was founded by Mother Alfred Moes in 1865 and
8is the oldest social service provider in the Will County area;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate
11built a motherhouse, took in orphans and boarding students,
12staffed parish schools, and welcomed new members to their
13novitiate; they established a variety of ministries and built a
14number of Catholic institutions that continue to serve the
15people of Joliet area; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate has
17become an international entity, serving children and families
18in the United States and in South America; they serve in a
19variety of locations in 13 states, 25 Archdioceses and
20Dioceses, and 5 areas in Brazil; their sponsored institutions
21include Joliet Catholic Academy, Our Lady of Angels Retirement
22Home, the Franciscan Learning Center in Joliet, and San Damiano

1School in Goiania Brazil (founded in 1970 with currently over
2900 students); and
 
3    WHEREAS, Today, the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary
4Immaculate serve as administrators, teachers, campus
5ministers, tutors, and librarians in many areas of the country
6and overseas; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9congratulate the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate on
10its 150th anniversary and we wish them many more successful
11years; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate as
14an expression of our esteem and respect.
