HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives with to congratulate the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, The congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate was founded by Mother Alfred Moes in 1865 and is the oldest social service provider in the Will County area; and

WHEREAS, The Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate built a motherhouse, took in orphans and boarding students, staffed parish schools, and welcomed new members to their novitiate; they established a variety of ministries and built a number of Catholic institutions that continue to serve the people of Joliet area; and

WHEREAS, The Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate has become an international entity, serving children and families in the United States and in South America; they serve in a variety of locations in 13 states, 25 Archdioceses and Dioceses, and 5 areas in Brazil; their sponsored institutions include Joliet Catholic Academy, Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, the Franciscan Learning Center in Joliet, and San Damiano School in Goiania Brazil (founded in 1970 with currently over 900 students); and

WHEREAS, Today, the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate serve as administrators, teachers, campus ministers, tutors, and librarians in many areas of the country and overseas; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate on its 150th anniversary and we wish them many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate as an expression of our esteem and respect.
