HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Grateful Dead is a band formed in the San Francisco Bay area in 1965; the band toured throughout the country and the world between 1965 and 1995, playing over 2,300 shows; and

WHEREAS, The Grateful Dead has continuously spread the message of peace, love, and happiness and has brought smiles to the faces of countless fans throughout the world and numerous generations throughout the decades; and

WHEREAS, The Grateful Dead is a band beyond description whose musical style transcends genres; the band has inspired and continues to inspire numerous other bands throughout the years; and

WHEREAS, The Grateful Dead played its final show with founding member Jerry Garcia at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 9, 1995; and

WHEREAS, In 2015, the Grateful Dead is celebrating its 50th anniversary as a band; the band has chosen the City of Chicago to commemorate its 50th anniversary and is playing its final 3 shows as a band at Soldier Field; and

WHEREAS, Chicago has become the number one travel destination over the July 4, 2015 weekend due to the Grateful Dead's decision to play its final shows in Chicago; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we wish the Grateful Dead much success at its upcoming concerts on July 3, 4, and 5, 2015 at Soldier Field and wish the individual band members of the Grateful Dead much success in their future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Grateful Dead during its final shows in Chicago.
