HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Warren O. Hughes on the occasion of his retirement and thank him for his many years of service; and

WHEREAS, Warren Hughes is the Associate Pastor at the Havana Church of Christ; he is retiring after 65 years in the ministry; and

WHEREAS, Warren Hughes was raised in Richland Center, Wisconsin; he entered the ministry in 1950 when he and his wife, Mary Lou, moved to Minneapolis so Warren could attend Minnesota Bible College; and

WHEREAS, While Warren Hughes attended college, he began his preaching career at 2 small country churches outside Minneapolis; in 1954, Warren and his wife moved to Granola, Kansas, where he started his full-time ministry; the couple excelled in starting up new churches; and

WHEREAS, Warren Hughes served in Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa before coming to Woodstock, where he started his last church at the age of 65; and

WHEREAS, In 1988, Warren Hughes and his wife moved to Havana, where he was hired at the Havana Church of Christ as an Associate Pastor; his primary duties were to minister to the senior citizens in the church and the community; and

WHEREAS, During his time at the Havana Church of Christ, Warren Hughes developed a vibrant jail ministry, calling on those who were incarcerated; he made visits to those who were confined to their homes or in a nursing home, often leading Sunday services at the facilities; he and his wife would also visit the downtrodden, helping them buy groceries or passing along items provided from local gardens; and

WHEREAS, Warren Hughes, now 92 years old, still likes to dabble in his garden; when he was younger, he loved helping on the farm and participating in outdoor pursuits, such as hunting; and

WHEREAS, Warren Hughes remains outspoken against drug, alcohol, and gambling addiction and has never shied away from voicing concern, support, or opposition to issues before the General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, Warren Hughes serves as an example of faith, passion, and dedication; his work throughout his career has benefited many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Warren O. Hughes for his many years of service, congratulate him on the occasion of his retirement, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Warren Hughes as an expression of our congratulations and appreciation for a job well done.
