HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend
4Edward L. "Shorty" Alsip of Marion, who passed away on July 3,
52015; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip was born in Creal Springs on November
715, 1935 to Edward Ellis and Mary Polly (nee Newton) Alsip; he
8graduated from Crab Orchard High School in 1953 and was united
9in marriage to Charlene "Tiner" Duke on August 31, 1957 in
10Corinth, Mississippi; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip worked at the American Can Company of
12Chicago; he then worked for Jake's Tire in Marion and for
13Fabick Machinery in Marion, where he worked for 33 years,
14retiring in 1998; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip was baptized and became a lay minister
16in the Methodist Church in Creal Springs before joining Mount
17Moriah General Baptist Church, where he was ordained in the
18late 1960s and preached for 8 years; he then moved to
19Spillertown Baptist Church, where he preached for over 23
20years, retiring in April of 2008; he came out of retirement and
21preached at the Reynoldsburg Church for 3 years; he lead
22numerous revivals, performed countless marriages, and presided

1over many funerals; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip was a member of the Ohio Association of
3General Baptists of Southern Illinois and the International
4Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers; he enjoyed
5riding his Can-Am motorcycle and the fellowship of his friends
6at the Marion Senior Citizens Center; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip was preceded in death by his parents;
8his son, James Ellis Alsip; and his wife, Charlene; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip is survived by his daughter and
10son-in-law, Sherry and John Lazorchak; his son and
11daughter-in-law, Keith and Becky Alsip; his son, Ricky Alsip
12and companion, Theresa Avants; his 4 grandchildren, Hannah
13Lazorchak and her fiancé, Carl Brooks, Joshua Lazorchak,
14Matthew Alsip, and Abigail Alsip; his sister and
15brother-in-law, Linda and Jim Robertson; other extended
16family; and many friends; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19mourn the passing of Reverend Edward L. "Shorty" Alsip, and
20extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
21who knew and loved him; and be it further
