2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Prashant |
4 | | Bhargava; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava was an acclaimed filmmaker and |
6 | | commercial director known for revealing the extraordinary in |
7 | | the ordinary; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava's films are anthems of the |
9 | | underground; his canvas is the rambunctious, fascinating, |
10 | | ever-changing globe; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava was born and raised on the south |
12 | | side of Chicago and, by his own telling, was "one of the first |
13 | | South Asians worldwide to emerge from the hip hop movement as a |
14 | | graffiti artist"; growing up on the South Side was his most |
15 | | beloved calling card; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava graduated in 1994 from Cornell |
17 | | University, where he studied computer science; he also studied |
18 | | theatrical directing in New York at the Barrow Group Theater |
19 | | Company and School and at the Actors Studio; he later designed |
20 | | and directed video advertising for NBC and PBS; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava's most recent work, a work with |
2 | | composer Vijay Iyer entitled Radhe Radhe, was commissioned to |
3 | | commemorate the 100th anniversary of Stravinsky's Rite of |
4 | | Spring; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava's feature-length directorial |
6 | | debut, Patang, received 4 stars from Roger Ebert and selection |
7 | | as a critics pick by the New York Times and Los Angeles Times; |
8 | | his other directorial efforts include Sangam, Ammaji, |
9 | | Backwaters, and Kashmir; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava's greatest triumph was his |
11 | | unbounded love and devotion to his parents, Vijay and Ranjana, |
12 | | his sister, Anurimal, his family and friends, and the countless |
13 | | many he encountered on his journey who, with his dancing eyes, |
14 | | playful spirit, and mystic truth telling, he left cherished and |
15 | | inspired; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
17 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
18 | | mourn the premature passing of Prashant Bhargava and extend our |
19 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
20 | | and loved him; and be it further
