| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Corrine Mary Shipp on the |
| 4 | | occasion of her 100th birthday on September 6, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Corrine Shipp was born on September 6, 1915 in |
| 6 | | Buffalo Hart to Orville and Minnie (nee English) Artis; her |
| 7 | | twin sister, Lorrine, came 15 minutes later; along with her |
| 8 | | brothers, Ashley and D'Arcy, the family settled in Springfield; |
| 9 | | she and her sister attended Lincoln Public School and were |
| 10 | | among 3 African-Americans to graduate from Springfield High |
| 11 | | School in 1931; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Corrine Shipp married Archie Shipp in 1936 and |
| 13 | | they had 2 children, Donald in 1937 and Joyce Lynn in 1941; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Corrine Shipp worked for the State of Illinois for |
| 15 | | the Pardon and Parole Board for many years; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Corrine Shipp has always had music as a part of |
| 17 | | her life; early in life, she was part of a musical quartet, the |
| 18 | | J and A Melody Maids; she directed her church choir for many |
| 19 | | years and her children all played musical instruments; she is |
| 20 | | an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoys cowboy movies, crossword |
| 21 | | puzzles, and bowling; and
