| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | | WHEREAS, In 2008, 6 million Americans did not vote because |
| 3 | | they missed a registration deadline or did not know how to |
| 4 | | register; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, August 6 was the 50th anniversary of the Voting |
| 6 | | Rights Act of 1965 becoming law; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, On September 22, 2015, volunteers, celebrities, |
| 8 | | and organizations from all over the country will partake in |
| 9 | | National Voter Registration Day activities, including various |
| 10 | | coordinated field, technology, and media efforts in order to |
| 11 | | create pervasive awareness of voter registration opportunities |
| 12 | | and enabling them to reach tens of thousands of voters who |
| 13 | | would not otherwise register to vote; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Many initiatives are being used to encourage |
| 15 | | people to partake in the democratic process, including the |
| 16 | | registration of voters, the mobilization of thousands of |
| 17 | | volunteers, the education of eligible voters, and a celebration |
| 18 | | of the rights that unite us as Americans; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, The members of this body are proud to join in the |
| 20 | | concerted effort to ensure that all Americans become involved |
| 21 | | in the electoral process and make their voices count; |
