| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Yoshi |
| 4 | | Katsumura of Chicago, who passed away on August 2, 2015; and

| 5 | | WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura was the owner and chef of Yoshi's |
| 6 | | Cafe on North Halsted, which offers a fusion of Asian and |
| 7 | | French cuisine; he and his wife, Nobuko, opened the restaurant |
| 8 | | in 1982, operating it for 33 years; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura got his start cooking at the age |
| 10 | | of 20 with an apprenticeship under Iron Chef Hiroyuki Sakai in |
| 11 | | Tokyo; he moved to Chicago in 1973, working at Le Bastille, and |
| 12 | | then with Jean Banchet at La Francais; from 1978 to 1982, he |
| 13 | | presided over Jimmy's Place, which evolved into Jimmy and |
| 14 | | Yoshi's; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura was named one of America's |
| 16 | | Outstanding Chefs; he received numerous accolades throughout |
| 17 | | the years; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, One of Yoshi Katsumura's proudest moments was when |
| 19 | | Alderman Tom Tunney sponsored the renaming of the street his |
| 20 | | cafe was on as "Yoshi Katsumura Way"; and
