HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Glenn Edward Young, who passed away on August 15, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Young was born in West Frankfort on March 11, 1928 to Lewis Ervin and Lillie Mae (nee Womack) Young; he enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II at the age of 17 and was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington D.C.; he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon Victory Medal; he moved back to West Frankfort after receiving an Honorable Discharge as Seaman First Class; he married Betty Rose Bollinger on February 10, 1950; and

WHEREAS, After driving a taxicab for a while in 1950, Glenn Young started working for General Telephone Company, starting out as a lineman and later becoming a service technician, installing telephones and then a switching technician; he also served on the negotiating committee and as union steward for many years; he retired from the phone company in 1990 after 40 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Young was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 702 for 65 years, where he served on the safety committee and as election judge; he was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Moose club in West Frankfort; he was elected Denning Township Clerk for several terms; he was a very active Democrat precinct committeeman and served as Vice-Chairman of Franklin County Democrats for a number of years; he was also a member of the Wit and Wisdom Senior Center in West Frankfort and served on its board of directors; he was a rabbit and squirrel hunter and fisherman; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Young was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; his brother, Curtis Young; his son, Russell Young; and his granddaughter, Molly Young; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Young is survived by his 3 children, his son, Larry Young and wife, Linda, his daughter, Loutricia Brock and husband, Dale, and his son, William Young and wife, Cathy; his 18 grandchildren, Shana Young, Holly Powell and husband, Philip, Merissa Madden and husband, Tom, Shannon Geer and wife, Kelli, Carrie Young, Adam Young, Lea Brock, Robert Brock, Jason Young, Heather Young, Jeremy Young and wife, Miranda, Sarah McCollum and husband, Kyle, Megan Young and fiancé, Jarad Champlin, Jesse Young, Grace Young, Jake Young, and Josh Young; and his 10 great-grandchildren.; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Glenn Edward Young, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Glenn Young as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
