HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Sharon Thomas Parrott on
4the occasion her retirement as Senior Vice-President of
5External Relations and Global Responsibility of the DeVry
6Education Group; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Sharon Parrott is responsible for the design,
8implementation, and monitoring of the organization's
9comprehensive regulatory compliance programs; in addition, she
10directs government relations, community engagement,
11international relations, and global communications; as
12President of The DeVry Foundation, she directs the
13organization's charitable giving program; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Prior to joining DeVry, Sharon Parrott worked at
15the United States Department of Education in student financial
16aid at the Chicago region; later, she directed national
17training programs in Washington D.C.; she has also held faculty
18and administrative positions at Illinois colleges and
19universities, including Loyola University of Chicago,
20Dominican University, Northeastern University, and George
21Williams College; she began her career as a Chicago Public
22Schools teacher at John Marshall Harlan High School, her alma
23mater; and

1    WHEREAS, Sharon Parrott serves the State of Illinois as a
2member of the P-20 Council, co-chairing the committee on
3College and Career Readiness; she is a member of the Board of
4Trustees of One Goal, a college access and success network,
5serves as an informed source on college pricing for The College
6Board, and is an inaugural member of the 100 Wise Women, a
7program designed to provide networking and mentoring
8opportunities for women leaders in Chicago; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Sharon Parrott served on the Advisory Committee of
10Women Employed "Upgrade Your Future" Taskforce, on the steering
11committee of the National Postsecondary Education Cooperative,
12and as a member of the National Research Council's Panel on
13Quality Improvement in Student Financial Aid Programs;
14additionally she was a member of the board of directors of
15National Association of Student Finance Aid Administrators and
16Vice-Chair of the College Board's Committee on Standards in
17Ability to Pay; in 2000, Crain's Chicago Business named her to
18the 100 Women Making a Difference in Chicago listing; she is a
19member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Sharon Parrott received bachelor's and master's
21degrees in history from the University of Illinois and pursued
22doctoral coursework in higher education policy and leadership;
23she has a daughter, who is an entrepreneur, and lives with her

1husband in Chicago; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
4congratulate Sharon Thomas Parrott on her retirement as Senior
5Vice-President of External Relations and Global Responsibility
6of the DeVry Education Group and wish her many more successful
7years; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Sharon Parrott as an expression of our esteem and
10respect.
