2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Sharon Thomas Parrott on | ||||||
4 | the occasion her retirement as Senior Vice-President of | ||||||
5 | External Relations and Global Responsibility of the DeVry | ||||||
6 | Education Group; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Sharon Parrott is responsible for the design,
| ||||||
8 | implementation, and monitoring of the organization's | ||||||
9 | comprehensive regulatory
compliance programs; in addition, she | ||||||
10 | directs government relations, community
engagement, | ||||||
11 | international relations, and global communications; as | ||||||
12 | President of The
DeVry Foundation, she directs the | ||||||
13 | organization's charitable giving program; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Prior to joining DeVry, Sharon Parrott worked at | ||||||
15 | the United States Department of Education in student
financial | ||||||
16 | aid at the Chicago region; later, she directed national | ||||||
17 | training programs in
Washington D.C.; she has also held faculty | ||||||
18 | and administrative positions at Illinois
colleges and | ||||||
19 | universities, including Loyola University of Chicago, | ||||||
20 | Dominican University,
Northeastern University, and George | ||||||
21 | Williams College; she began her career as a
Chicago Public | ||||||
22 | Schools teacher at John Marshall Harlan High School, her alma | ||||||
23 | mater; and

1 | WHEREAS, Sharon Parrott serves the State of Illinois as a | ||||||
2 | member of the P-20 Council, co-chairing
the committee on | ||||||
3 | College and Career Readiness; she is a member of the
Board of | ||||||
4 | Trustees of One Goal, a college access and success network, | ||||||
5 | serves as an
informed source on college pricing for The College | ||||||
6 | Board, and is an inaugural member
of the 100 Wise Women, a | ||||||
7 | program designed to provide networking and mentoring
| ||||||
8 | opportunities for women leaders in Chicago; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Sharon Parrott served on the Advisory Committee of | ||||||
10 | Women Employed "Upgrade Your
Future" Taskforce, on the steering | ||||||
11 | committee of the National Postsecondary Education
Cooperative, | ||||||
12 | and as a member of the National Research Council's Panel on | ||||||
13 | Quality
Improvement in Student Financial Aid Programs; | ||||||
14 | additionally she was a member of the
board of directors of | ||||||
15 | National Association of Student Finance Aid Administrators
and | ||||||
16 | Vice-Chair of the College Board's Committee on Standards in | ||||||
17 | Ability to
Pay; in 2000, Crain's Chicago Business named her to | ||||||
18 | the 100 Women Making a
Difference in Chicago listing; she is a | ||||||
19 | member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Sharon Parrott received bachelor's and master's | ||||||
21 | degrees in history from the
University of Illinois and pursued | ||||||
22 | doctoral coursework in higher education policy and
leadership; | ||||||
23 | she has a daughter, who is an entrepreneur, and lives with her |

1 | husband in
Chicago; therefore, be it

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
3 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
4 | congratulate Sharon Thomas Parrott on her retirement as Senior | ||||||
5 | Vice-President of External Relations and Global Responsibility | ||||||
6 | of the DeVry Education Group and wish her many more successful | ||||||
7 | years; and be it further

8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
