| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are | ||||||
| 3 | pleased to recognize the Illinois Community College System on | ||||||
| 4 | the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The 48 community colleges within 39 districts in | ||||||
| 6 | Illinois serve nearly one million students taking credit, | ||||||
| 7 | non-credit, and community education courses each year; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Community College System is the third | ||||||
| 9 | largest in the nation; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Nine out of 10 Illinois community college | ||||||
| 11 | graduates remain in Illinois after graduation to live, work, | ||||||
| 12 | pay taxes, and raise their families; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, The benefits of earning an associate's degree or | ||||||
| 14 | long-term certificate from an Illinois community college | ||||||
| 15 | translates to an average of more than $570,000 in lifetime | ||||||
| 16 | earnings; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Nearly 74% of Illinois employers have hired a | ||||||
| 18 | community college student; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Illinois community colleges have partnered with | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | local school districts to offer 8,780 dual credit courses to | ||||||
| 2 | 82,895 high school students; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, The colleges within the Illinois Community | ||||||
| 4 | College System share a common mission to prepare people for | ||||||
| 5 | college and the workforce, to transfer to other colleges and | ||||||
| 6 | universities, and to continually respond to the communities | ||||||
| 7 | they serve through adult literacy and continuing education | ||||||
| 8 | services; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 10 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 11 | commend Governor Rauner for his proclamation of July 15, 2015 | ||||||
| 12 | through July 15, 2016 as The Year of the Community College, | ||||||
| 13 | recognize the Illinois Community College System on its rich 50 | ||||||
| 14 | years of history, and wish it success and prosperity in the | ||||||
| 15 | future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to the Illinois Community College Board as a symbol | ||||||
| 18 | of our esteem and respect.
