HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are
3pleased to recognize the Illinois Community College System on
4the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The 48 community colleges within 39 districts in
6Illinois serve nearly one million students taking credit,
7non-credit, and community education courses each year; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Illinois Community College System is the third
9largest in the nation; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Nine out of 10 Illinois community college
11graduates remain in Illinois after graduation to live, work,
12pay taxes, and raise their families; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The benefits of earning an associate's degree or
14long-term certificate from an Illinois community college
15translates to an average of more than $570,000 in lifetime
16earnings; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Nearly 74% of Illinois employers have hired a
18community college student; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Illinois community colleges have partnered with

1local school districts to offer 8,780 dual credit courses to
282,895 high school students; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The colleges within the Illinois Community
4College System share a common mission to prepare people for
5college and the workforce, to transfer to other colleges and
6universities, and to continually respond to the communities
7they serve through adult literacy and continuing education
8services; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11commend Governor Rauner for his proclamation of July 15, 2015
12through July 15, 2016 as The Year of the Community College,
13recognize the Illinois Community College System on its rich 50
14years of history, and wish it success and prosperity in the
15future; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the Illinois Community College Board as a symbol
18of our esteem and respect.
