| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Warren G. Murray Developmental Center in |
| 3 | | Centralia was built in 1964 to meet the needs of children faced |
| 4 | | with severe developmental disabilities; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, There are currently 229 residents at Murray |
| 6 | | Center; over half of the residents have called Murray home for |
| 7 | | at least 20 years; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, More than half of Murray Center residents have a |
| 9 | | dual diagnosis of a developmental disability and a mental |
| 10 | | illness; 45% of the Murray residents are non-ambulatory and |
| 11 | | many cannot express themselves verbally and understand very |
| 12 | | little of the world around them; medical issues are prevalent |
| 13 | | and complicate even further the labor intensive needs of these |
| 14 | | individuals, leaving some individuals completely dependent |
| 15 | | upon others for every need; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, In 2012, it was announced that the Warren G. |
| 17 | | Murray Developmental Center would close its doors; thanks to |
| 18 | | the dedication and hard work from the Murray Parents |
| 19 | | Association, Friends of Murray Center, Illinois State |
| 20 | | Representative John Cavaletto, Illinois State Representative |
| 21 | | Charlie Meier, Illinois State Senator Kyle McCarter, Governor |
| 22 | | Bruce Rauner, and dozens of Illinois legislators, the Murray |
