| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John A. |
| 4 | | Killam of Jacksonville, who passed away on August 24, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Killam was born in rural Morgan County on |
| 6 | | October 19, 1923 to John S. and Pearl Bowlds Killam; he married |
| 7 | | Helen L. Cox on December 14, 1947 at the Lynnville Christian |
| 8 | | Church; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, John Killam farmed and raised livestock west of |
| 10 | | Jacksonville for many years; he served as a Morgan County |
| 11 | | Commissioner for 16 years from December of 1986 to December of |
| 12 | | 2002; he was active as a lobbyist for agricultural interests |
| 13 | | and received many awards for his work in the advancement of the |
| 14 | | livestock industry in Illinois; he worked with the Illinois |
| 15 | | Beef Association for over 20 years, retiring in 1989; under his |
| 16 | | leadership, the first Illinois State Beef Checkoff was |
| 17 | | established in 1983; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, John Killam was a fan of automobile racing and |
| 19 | | enjoyed antique tractors and steam power; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, John Killam was preceded in death by his 2 sons, |
| 21 | | John Paul Killam and James Killam; his sister, Irene Killam |
