| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Retinoblastoma is a malignant cancer that |
| 3 | | develops in the retina during early childhood; most children |
| 4 | | diagnosed with the disease are younger than 3 years old; it is |
| 5 | | often found when a parent or doctor notices that a child's eye |
| 6 | | displays unusual signs or symptoms; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, If the disease goes undetected, retinoblastoma |
| 8 | | requires the removal of the eye to keep the disease from |
| 9 | | spreading to the optic nerve and the brain; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Retinoblastoma is a rare disease, with only about |
| 11 | | 200 to 300 children diagnosed with the disease each year in the |
| 12 | | United States; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, The members of this body believe that greater |
| 14 | | attention must be placed on raising awareness of retinoblastoma |
| 15 | | and other cancers in order to fight these debilitating diseases |
| 16 | | and the effects they have on the citizens of this State; |
| 17 | | therefore, be it

| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 19 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 20 | | designate the month of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness |
| 21 | | Month in the State of Illinois and urge the citizens of this |
