| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Village of New | ||||||
| 4 | Berlin on the occasion of the Village's 150th anniversary; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The first settlement in the area was laid out in | ||||||
| 6 | 1838 by German immigrants; the Village of New Berlin became | ||||||
| 7 | incorporated in 1865 as an agricultural community in Sangamon | ||||||
| 8 | County; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, On November 17, 1956, a fire destroyed several | ||||||
| 10 | businesses in New Berlin, which were forced to rebuild; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, According to United States Census data, New Berlin | ||||||
| 12 | had a population of 1,346 in 2010, an increase of 30.7% since | ||||||
| 13 | 2000; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, New Berlin is home to Community Unit School | ||||||
| 15 | District 16, which includes New Berlin Elementary School, New | ||||||
| 16 | Berlin Middle School, and New Berlin High School, all of which | ||||||
| 17 | have the Pretzel as their mascot; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, The Village of New Berlin is home to the Sangamon | ||||||
| 19 | County Fair, which attracts fairgoers from around central | ||||||
| 20 | Illinois to enjoy music and festivities during the month of | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | June; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, To commemorate its 150th anniversary, activities | ||||||
| 3 | will take place throughout the year, culminating on the weekend | ||||||
| 4 | of October 3, 2015; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, As part of the celebration, a "Sesquicentennial | ||||||
| 6 | History Book" is being developed that will chronicle | ||||||
| 7 | significant events that have occurred in the area; the book | ||||||
| 8 | will include sections for families, businesses, farms, | ||||||
| 9 | churches, and civic organizations, with the goal of building an | ||||||
| 10 | accurate and comprehensive book of the history of the New | ||||||
| 11 | Berlin area; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 13 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 14 | congratulate the Village of New Berlin on the occasion of its | ||||||
| 15 | sesquicentennial anniversary, wish the Village tremendous | ||||||
| 16 | success on its sesquicentennial celebration, and wish the | ||||||
| 17 | Village's residents success and prosperity in the years to | ||||||
| 18 | come; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to the Village President of New Berlin as a symbol of | ||||||
| 21 | our admiration and respect on the occasion of New Berlin's | ||||||
| 22 | 150th anniversary celebration.
