HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize  Eveline Deabel and the late 
4Deacon Ray Deabel on the occasion of receiving the 2015 Courage 
5Award from Franciscan St. James Health; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Courage Award is given to those who show great 
7courage and love while battling a life-threatening illness or 
8while showing extraordinary support for a family member through 
9a life-threatening illness; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Evie Deabel and her husband, the late Deacon Ray 
11Deabel, together faced Ray's diagnosis of cancer with dignity 
12and bravery; throughout that time, they were fixtures at 
13Franciscan St. James Health, showing their love and care for 
14other patients in spite of the fact that Ray was undergoing 
15radical treatment to battle the disease; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, With a sense of compassion and always with a smile 
17on his face, Ray Deabel continued to perform his duties as a 
18chaplain at the hospital, while Evie  Deabel worked as a guest 
19services representative; at last year's hospital gala, Ray took 
20the stage to honor his oncologist and longtime friend, Dr. 
21Srinivasan, despite the pain he himself was in at the time; and

1    WHEREAS, When Ray Deabel passed away in March of 2015, his 
2loss left a hole in the heart of St. James; today, Evie Deabel 
3continues to work at the hospital, sharing Ray's story and 
4being a shining beacon of what it means to have courage and 
5faith in the face of adversity; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Evie and Ray Deabel serve as models of hard work, 
7integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
8Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
11recognize Eveline Deabel and the late Deacon Ray Deabel on the 
12occasion of receiving the 2015 Courage Award from Franciscan 
13St. James Health and thank them for the example of courage and 
14service they have provided for the people of this State; and be 
15it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to Evie Deabel as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
