| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the
passing of McHenry |
| 4 | | County Sheriff's Deputy Dwight Maness; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Maness served his country as a 20-year |
| 6 | | member of the United States Army Rangers, rising to
the rank of |
| 7 | | Sergeant First Class and serving in combat during the first |
| 8 | | Gulf War; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Upon retiring from the Army, Deputy Maness was |
| 10 | | driven to continue protecting his
community as a deputy in the |
| 11 | | McHenry County Sheriff's Department, where he served as a field
|
| 12 | | training officer, a member of the SWAT team, and a first aid |
| 13 | | instructor; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Maness embodied the courage and |
| 15 | | selflessness of those who protect and serve our
communities; |
| 16 | | responding to a report of a domestic incident in Holiday Hills, |
| 17 | | he was
ambushed and shot 3 times in the back and leg by the |
| 18 | | suspect with a high-powered assault
rifle; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Maness' heroism in the line of duty was |
| 20 | | recognized when he received a Purple
Heart medal from the |
| 21 | | sheriff's department; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Despite severe injuries, Deputy Maness continued |
| 2 | | working to foster kinship within the local
law enforcement |
| 3 | | community; although confined to a wheel chair, he spent his |
| 4 | | final birthday
attending a vigil for fallen Fox Lake Police |
| 5 | | Lieutenant Joseph Gliniewicz; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Maness worked hard to overcome the severe |
| 7 | | injuries sustained in the attack
in hopes of returning to |
| 8 | | active duty, but he passed too soon at the age of 47; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Maness will be remembered by the community |
| 10 | | he loved as one of the true
heroes who walk among us; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Maness is survived by his wife Sue, with |
| 12 | | whom he would have celebrated
5 years of marriage this |
| 13 | | September; therefore, be it
|
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 15 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 16 | | mourn the passing of McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Dwight |
| 17 | | Maness, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, |
| 18 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
|
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 20 | | presented to the family of Deputy Maness as an expression of |
