HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of Illinois House of Representatives
3wish to congratulate Arlene Norsym on the occasion of her
4retirement after 30 years of dedicated service to the students,
5faculty, and alumni of the University of Illinois at Chicago;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Arlene Norsym became the Assistant Dean of
8Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1985;
9as Assistant Dean of Engineering, she worked to establish
10programs, promote organizations, and create networking
11opportunities to help ensure that students would receive the
12most from their degrees; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In 2000, Arlene Norsym was appointed to serve as
14Vice President of the University of Illinois Alumni Association
15and Associate Chancellor for Alumni Relations, a position that
16allowed her passion for the University of Illinois system and
17her fellow alumni shine most brightly; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Over the past 15 years, Arlene Norsym has used
19marketing campaigns, newsletters, and promotional events to
20raise visibility about the Alumni Association on campus and to
21create invaluable programs and events like the Pier Room and
22Circle Lounge displays; she has done so through budget

1challenges and with limited financial support, making her
2achievements that much more impressive; and
 
3    WHEREAS, During her time at the University of Illinois at
4Chicago, Arlene Norsym has advocated for necessary University
5programs and events, expanded alumni involvement and
6recognition, and, above all, celebrated the accomplishments of
7UIC students; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10congratulate Arlene Norsym on her retirement and thank her for
11all she has done for the students, faculty, and alumni of the
12University of Illinois at Chicago; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Arlene Norsym as a symbol of our thanks and
15appreciation for her service to the University of Illinois at
16Chicago community.
