HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize the 100th anniversary of the 
4Phillips Park Zoo in Aurora; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The Phillips Park Zoo opened in 1915 and  
6originally housed exotic animals; since then, the mission has 
7changed to bring people in contact with animals
native to North 
8America - from cougars, elks, and wolves to alligators, eagles, 
9and otters; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, The Phillips Park Zoo has over 80 animals of over 
1140 different species; it entertains over 200,000 visitors per 
12year and has no entrance fee; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Although there is a limited amount of land at the 
14Phillips Park Zoo, the animals are provided ample
exhibit 
15space, preferring to house fewer animals comfortably instead of 
16trying to house
more animals in smaller exhibits; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, In addition to housing animals, the Phillips Park 
18Zoo is also home to many rescue
animals; many of the rescue 
19animals have permanent disabilities that prevent them from ever 
20being released back into
the wild; and

1    WHEREAS, The Phillips Park Zoo continues to add new animals 
2through the rescue and breeding programs it participates in; 
3therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6recognize the Phillips Park Zoo on its 100th anniversary and we 
7wish it many more successful years; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to the Phillips Park Zoo as an expression of our 
10esteem and respect.
