HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Doris Turner on the 
4occasion of being selected to serve as Mayor Pro Tempore of the 
5City of Springfield by Mayor Jim Langfelder; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Doris Turner was first elected to represent 
7Springfield's 3rd Ward on the Springfield City Council in 2011 
8after serving as a member of the Sangamon County Board for 10 
9years; she worked for the State of Illinois for 33 years, 22 of 
10which were spent with the Department of Public Health; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, While at the Department of Public Health, Doris 
12Turner developed, administered, and implemented nationally 
13recognized programs to increase awareness of HIV, breast and 
14cervical cancer, and prostate cancer within communities of 
15color; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Doris Turner has served her community as a member 
17of the Lincoln Land Community College Eastside Advisory Board, 
18the Springfield/Sangamon County Health Initiative Board of 
19Directors, the Springfield/Sangamon County Minority Health 
20Coalition, the Springfield Chamber of Commerce Q5 Initiative 
21Diversity Council, the Voices for Illinois Children 
22Springfield Leadership Team, and as chair of the Sangamon

1County Democratic Party; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, Doris Turner was honored at the Springfield and 
3Central Illinois African American History Museum's 2014 
4Honoring our Heritage Gala for her many years of community 
5service; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Doris Turner is a lifelong Springfield resident 
7who has worked to lead her home community through difficult 
8times, addressing challenges ranging from public safety to 
9foreclosure; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Doris Turner is a devoted and hard-working public 
11servant who maintains a focus on making government services 
12accessible; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
15congratulate Doris Turner on the occasion of her selection as 
16Mayor Pro Tempore of the City of Springfield and wish her well 
17in this position; and be it further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to Doris Turner as a symbol of our esteem and 
20respect.
