| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Laurette Kittler on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of being inducted into St. Benedict School's Hall of | ||||||
| 5 | Fame on October 24, 2015; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Laurette Kittler was born on December 17, 1928 in | ||||||
| 7 | Chicago; before finding her way into education, she studied and | ||||||
| 8 | traveled as an actress, working in various companies and | ||||||
| 9 | sharing the stage with the likes of Harvey Korman and Celeste | ||||||
| 10 | Holm; she eventually met her life partner, Emil Kittler, whom | ||||||
| 11 | she married in 1952; the couple had one daughter, Emily, who | ||||||
| 12 | took part in several of her mother's shows; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, After many years as an actress, she decided that | ||||||
| 14 | the difficult life of a thespian was not the direction she | ||||||
| 15 | wanted to take; her father then encouraged her to go back to | ||||||
| 16 | school and teach; in the spring of 1959, while teaching at St. | ||||||
| 17 | Gregory on Chicago's north side, she was asked to direct a play | ||||||
| 18 | at St. Benedict High School that was already in production; the | ||||||
| 19 | following school year, she was hired to teach and direct at St. | ||||||
| 20 | Benedict; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, From the 1950s to the mid-1990s, Laurette Kittler | ||||||
| 22 | directed countless productions and taught thousands of | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | students; she also inspired them to be better people; by | ||||||
| 2 | marrying her love of theater with her love of teaching, she | ||||||
| 3 | taught her drama students not only to act and "project", but | ||||||
| 4 | also learn the vital skills of teamwork, dedication, and a | ||||||
| 5 | professional attitude that makes one successful in life; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Upon her retirement, Laurette Kittler made her way | ||||||
| 7 | to southern California, where she acted in a local troupe for | ||||||
| 8 | many years; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, In honor of Laurette Kittler's induction into the | ||||||
| 10 | St. Benedict Hall of Fame, a scholarship to a high school drama | ||||||
| 11 | student will be presented in her name; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Laurette Kittler serves as a model of hard work, | ||||||
| 13 | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | ||||||
| 14 | Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | congratulate Laurette Kittler on the occasion of being inducted | ||||||
| 18 | into St. Benedict School's Hall of Fame and wish her continued | ||||||
| 19 | success and happiness in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Laurette Kittler as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
