HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, WINGS started in 1985 as a grass roots effort led 
3by a handful of people to locate affordable housing in the 
4north and northwest suburbs; during their search, they learned 
5that women and children were a major component of the homeless 
6and the reason for their homelessness was domestic violence; 
7and
  
 
  
8    WHEREAS, With a strong belief in helping others and a 
9commitment to making this a better world for those who were in 
10need, a non-profit organization was incorporated under the name 
11"Housing & Shelter Program" and set out to fund raise; as the 
12years progressed, more women called for assistance and the name 
13of the organization was changed to WINGS Program, Inc., an 
14acronym for Women in Need Growing Stronger; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, The organization began acquiring houses and 
16apartments so the homeless and abused women and children had a 
17place to live; staff were hired to provide counseling, 
18guidance, and support to the residents, and the phone never 
19stopped ringing; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Over the past 30 years, WINGS has provided 10,000 
21women and children with more than 600,000 nights of shelter and 
22is in the process of opening its second domestic violence safe

1house this winter; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, WINGS will hold its Purple Ball on October 17, 
32015 in Schaumburg; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6recognize the valuable work being done by WINGS and thank them 
7for their contribution to the community; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to WINGS as an expression of our esteem and respect.
