| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives with to congratulate Richard F. "Dick" Wilson |
| 4 | | on the occasion of his retirement as President of Illinois |
| 5 | | Wesleyan University; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dick Wilson will retire as the 18th President of |
| 7 | | Illinois Wesleyan University after serving for 11 years; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Dick Wilson has strengthened the University's |
| 9 | | financial health over the course of a very challenging decade |
| 10 | | for higher education through strong fiscal management and the |
| 11 | | successful completion of the Transforming Lives fundraising |
| 12 | | campaign, which raised $141 million, surpassing its $125 |
| 13 | | million goal; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Dick Wilson has strengthened the University's |
| 15 | | facilities with the construction of State Farm Hall, Kemp |
| 16 | | Commencement Plaza, the Minor Myers, Jr. Welcome Center, the |
| 17 | | Joslin Atrium, the Joyce Eichhorn Ames School of Art Rotunda, |
| 18 | | the Gates at Wesleyan, and the Shirk Center fitness center |
| 19 | | addition and the installation of artificial turf at Tucci |
| 20 | | Stadium; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Dick Wilson has guided the University through 2 |
|

| 1 | | strategic planning efforts, resulting in numerous initiatives, |
| 2 | | including increased attention to the assessment of student |
| 3 | | learning in academic programs, the expansion of efforts related |
| 4 | | to community engagement, global awareness, social justice, and |
| 5 | | growth in domestic and international student diversity; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dick Wilson has been a leader serving numerous |
| 7 | | local, State, and national organizations, including the McLean |
| 8 | | County Economic Development Council, the American Red Cross of |
| 9 | | the Heartland, the McLean County Historical Society, the |
| 10 | | Federation of Independent Illinois Colleges and Universities, |
| 11 | | the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, the National |
| 12 | | Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Council of |
| 13 | | Presidents, and the American Council on Education, Office for |
| 14 | | Women in Higher Education; therefore, be it
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 16 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 17 | | congratulate Richard F. "Dick" Wilson on his retirement as |
| 18 | | President of Illinois Wesleyan University and we wish him the |
| 19 | | best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to Dick Wilson as an expression of our esteem and |
| 22 | | respect.
