HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Mary D. Bruce on the
4occasion of her promotion to the position of Full Professor at
5Governors State University; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Mary D. Bruce earned her bachelor's degree in
7Mass Communications from Southern University in Baton Rouge,
8Louisiana in 1984, her master's degree in Public Administration
9from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan in 1992, and her
10Ph.D. in Political Science from Wayne State University in
11Detroit, Michigan in 2003; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Mary D. Bruce began her educational career in
131995 as a substitute teacher in the Detroit public school
14system; in 1998, she began teaching English and math at Wayne
15State University; in 1999, she began teaching English and math
16at the Lewis College of Business; in 2001, she started teaching
17American Government courses at Wayne State University; in 2003,
18at Wayne County Community College, she continued teaching
19American Government courses; from September of 2003 to August
20of 2004, she served as a lecturer of Intermediate Reading and
21Writing and Oral Communications/Public Speaking at Wayne State
22University; and

1    WHEREAS, In August of 2004, Dr. Mary D. Bruce became an
2Assistant Professor at Governors State University; while at
3Governors State University, she has taught numerous courses in
4public administration, including the Introduction to Public
5Administration and Public Policy Analysis undergraduate
6courses; she also taught the Seminar in Public Policy:
7Community Planning and Strategic Planning, Human Resource
8Management, Seminar in Public Policy, and Seminar in Urban and
9Local Government graduate courses; in July of 2007, she became
10a Visiting Professor at the Makerere University Business School
11in Kampala, Uganda; in 2014, she was selected to serve as the
12Not-for-Profit/Social Entrepreneurship Concentration
13Coordinator for Governors State University's doctoral program
14(Ed.D) in Interdisciplinary Leadership; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Mary D. Bruce is a member of the National
16Conference of Black Political Scientists, the African Working
17Group of the National Academy of Public Administration, the
18American Political Science Association, the American Society
19of Public Administrators, the National Association of Schools
20of Public Affairs and Administration, and the Consortium for
21International Management, Policy, and Development; she is a
22member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and has served
23on several boards, including the South Suburban Family Shelter
24and the Access to Care Board; she is also a lifetime member of
25Jack and Jill of America and an Itinerant Elder in the African

1Methodist Episcopal Church since 1998, serving in the fourth
2Episcopal District; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dr. Mary D. Bruce is a charter member of the
4International Public Administration Honors Society of Pi Alpha
5Alpha while at Oakland University and started the Pi Alpha
6Alpha Society at Governors State University; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Mary D. Bruce has authored numerous scholarly
8publications, including "Training for Disaster Management" for
9the Illinois Political Science Review, presented a paper
10entitled "Education at Opposite Ends of the Spectrum" for the
11Midwest Political Science Association, and published an
12article entitled "Is Equity in education Attainable?" in the
13Journal of Public Management and Social Policy; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Mary D. Bruce is a diligent and poised
15educator who serves as a model of integrity and dedication for
16the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19congratulate Dr. Mary D. Bruce on the occasion of her promotion
20to the position of Full Professor at Governors State University
21and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and
22be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to Dr. Mary D. Bruce as a symbol of our esteem and
3respect.
