| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to recognize the 25th anniversary of | ||||||
| 4 | founding of the Illinois Brass Band; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Brass Band was founded in 1991 by | ||||||
| 6 | George Faster and William
Homer, who modeled it after the | ||||||
| 7 | United Kingdom's Desford Colliery Caterpillar
Band, which | ||||||
| 8 | toured the United States in 1990; the Illinois Brass Band | ||||||
| 9 | entered its
first North American Brass Band Association | ||||||
| 10 | competition in 1993 and the next
year won first place honors; | ||||||
| 11 | and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, By 2002, the Illinois Brass Band had won 6 North | ||||||
| 13 | American Brass Band
Association championships in 7 years, all | ||||||
| 14 | while continuing to delight
audiences throughout the Chicago | ||||||
| 15 | area with a repertoire ranging from brass band
classics to show | ||||||
| 16 | tunes and jazz; in 2003, the Illinois Brass Band became the
| ||||||
| 17 | first brass band outside the Commonwealth to attend the British | ||||||
| 18 | Open Brass Band
Championships; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Over the years, the Illinois Brass Band has | ||||||
| 20 | presented dozens of concerts indoors
and out and showcased | ||||||
| 21 | exceptional artists, including Roger Webster, Michael
Mulcahy, | ||||||
| 22 | and Brett Baker; the Illinois Brass Band has produced 6 | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | recordings to
date; "Cookin' with Brass", the latest recording | ||||||
| 2 | project by the Illinois Brass Band, is
the first recording by | ||||||
| 3 | the band in over 10 years; the tracks were recorded over a
| ||||||
| 4 | series of sessions in May and early June 2013 at First United | ||||||
| 5 | Methodist Church
in Arlington Heights, where the band regularly | ||||||
| 6 | rehearses; the pieces selected are a
selection of pieces that | ||||||
| 7 | might be typically performed at one of the band's outdoor
| ||||||
| 8 | summer concerts; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Brass Band is a 30-member British | ||||||
| 10 | style brass band and is a 6-time
national champion of the North | ||||||
| 11 | American Brass Band Association; the band is a
Section | ||||||
| 12 | 501(c)(3) recognized organization and is supported in part by a | ||||||
| 13 | grant from the
Illinois Arts Council, a State agency; | ||||||
| 14 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | recognize the 25th anniversary of the Illinois Brass Band and | ||||||
| 18 | we wish them many more successful years; and be it further | ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That we declare June 11, 2016 as Illinois Brass | ||||||
| 20 | Band Day; and be it further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to the Illinois Brass Band as an expression of our | ||||||
