HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate  the administration, 
4teachers, and students of Emerson Elementary School on the 
5occasion of the school's designation as a National Blue Ribbon 
6School by the United States Department of Education; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program 
8recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high 
9schools where students either achieve high learning standards 
10or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement 
11gap; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Emerson Elementary School was recognized in the 
13category of Exemplary High Performing Schools, which are among 
14the State's highest performing schools as measured by State 
15assessments or national tests; the category also recognizes the 
16highest levels of student subgroup performance and high school 
17graduation rates; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Emerson Elementary School embodies rich ethnic 
19and socioeconomic diversity; of its 335 students, about 74% are 
20white, 14% are Hispanic, 5% are African-American, 4% are Asian, 
21and 4% are multi-racial; about 29% of students qualify as 
22low-income and 6% have limited English proficiency; the school

1also provides fine arts, music, physical education, and 
2technology programs to help nurture relationships with each 
3student, celebrate unique differences, and create learning 
4opportunities that teach beyond the classroom; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Emerson Elementary School will be officially 
6recognized at a ceremony on November 9-10, 2015 in Washington, 
7D.C.; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The administration, teachers, and students of 
9Emerson Elementary School serve as models of hard work, 
10integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
11Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
13NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
14congratulate the administration, teachers, and students of 
15Emerson Elementary School on the occasion of the school's 
16designation as a National Blue Ribbon School by the United 
17States Department of Education and wish them continued success 
18and happiness in the future; and be it further
  
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to Emerson Elementary School as a symbol of our 
21esteem and respect.
