| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Henry |
| 4 | | Grant, Jr. of Calumet City; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. was born in Chicago on July 5, |
| 6 | | 1933 to Henry Grant, Sr. and Naomi Moore; he attended Willard |
| 7 | | Elementary School and graduated from DuSable High School
in |
| 8 | | 1951; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, After graduation, Henry Grant, Jr. worked for the |
| 10 | | Pennsylvania Railroad in Chicago from 1951 to 1952; he joined |
| 11 | | the United States Marine Corps in September of 1952 and was |
| 12 | | honorably
discharged in September of 1955; he was awarded |
| 13 | | several medals, including the "National Defense Service |
| 14 | | Medal", the "United Nations Service Medal",
and the "Korean |
| 15 | | Service Medal"; after completing his tour of service, he |
| 16 | | married Jean Stewart in 1956 and joined
the Army National |
| 17 | | Guard, retiring in November 1977; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS Henry Grant, Jr. joined the
Chicago Police |
| 19 | | Department in 1957 as a patrolman, serving the City of Chicago |
| 20 | | honorably
before his retirement in 1991; he and his wife moved |
| 21 | | to Calumet City in 1993; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. was affectionately known as |
| 2 | | "Paw-Paw" to some and as "Hezekiah" to others; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. was preceded in death by his |
| 4 | | parents and his brothers, Raymond and Donald; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. is survived by his wife, Jean; |
| 6 | | his sons, Stevon and
William; his daughters, Valerie and |
| 7 | | Patricia (Clarence); his brother, Jamus (Janice); his |
| 8 | | sister-in-law, Lynn (Raymond-deceased); his grandchildren, |
| 9 | | Kelli (Marius), Jeremy, Michael
Vincent (Sherina), Garrett, |
| 10 | | Sydni, Paige, and Gloria; his great-grandchildren, Nekeya, |
| 11 | | Rayanna, Joseph, and Imani; his great-great-grandchildren, |
| 12 | | Ziyiare and Ke'Myrah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, |
| 13 | | and friends; therefore, be it

| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 15 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 16 | | mourn the passing of Henry Grant, Jr., and extend our sincere |
| 17 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
| 18 | | him; and be it further
|
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 20 | | presented to the family of Henry Grant, Jr. as an expression of |
| 21 | | our deepest sympathy.
