HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Henry
4Grant, Jr. of Calumet City; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. was born in Chicago on July 5,
61933 to Henry Grant, Sr. and Naomi Moore; he attended Willard
7Elementary School and graduated from DuSable High School in
81951; and
 
9    WHEREAS, After graduation, Henry Grant, Jr. worked for the
10Pennsylvania Railroad in Chicago from 1951 to 1952; he joined
11the United States Marine Corps in September of 1952 and was
12honorably discharged in September of 1955; he was awarded
13several medals, including the "National Defense Service
14Medal", the "United Nations Service Medal", and the "Korean
15Service Medal"; after completing his tour of service, he
16married Jean Stewart in 1956 and joined the Army National
17Guard, retiring in November 1977; and
 
18    WHEREAS Henry Grant, Jr. joined the Chicago Police
19Department in 1957 as a patrolman, serving the City of Chicago
20honorably before his retirement in 1991; he and his wife moved
21to Calumet City in 1993; and

1    WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. was affectionately known as
2"Paw-Paw" to some and as "Hezekiah" to others; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. was preceded in death by his
4parents and his brothers, Raymond and Donald; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. is survived by his wife, Jean;
6his sons, Stevon and William; his daughters, Valerie and
7Patricia (Clarence); his brother, Jamus (Janice); his
8sister-in-law, Lynn (Raymond-deceased); his grandchildren,
9Kelli (Marius), Jeremy, Michael Vincent (Sherina), Garrett,
10Sydni, Paige, and Gloria; his great-grandchildren, Nekeya,
11Rayanna, Joseph, and Imani; his great-great-grandchildren,
12Ziyiare and Ke'Myrah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
13and friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16mourn the passing of Henry Grant, Jr., and extend our sincere
17condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
18him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Henry Grant, Jr. as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
