HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize DuPage County on its successful efforts to streamline county government; and

WHEREAS, DuPage County's work to consolidate certain government responsibilities and eliminate others, where possible, has received national attention; it was honored with the Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties for the initiative; the program was enacted in 2012 and has saved a projected $80 million in taxpayer funds; and

WHEREAS, DuPage County's efforts began with the passage of Senate Bill 494 in the 98th General Assembly; SB 494 permitted the county to dissolve units of local government whose governing body is appointed by the county board Chairman or county executive; at the start, DuPage County had more than 400 governmental entities responsible for over $300 million in taxpayer funds; and

WHEREAS, DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin was a leading participant in the creation of the Transform Illinois Coalition in 2014, which works to facilitate better coordinated research, advocacy, legislative policy implementation, and to promote activities that will improve the effectiveness of government service delivery; and

WHEREAS, Transform Illinois includes membership of individual lawmakers, research organizations, government officials, and advocacy groups; and

WHEREAS, Chairman Cronin is determined to continue in the effort to streamline DuPage county government and plans on combining or eliminating additional governmental entities where possible; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize DuPage County on its successful efforts to streamline county government; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin as an expression of our esteem and respect.
