2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate John Kabat, Mt.
Vernon | ||||||
4 | Township High School (MVTHS) agriculture teacher, on receiving | ||||||
5 | the National Agriculture Service
Citation Award; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Only 6 people in the nation are selected for the | ||||||
7 | honor each year; the award recognizes John Kabat for
his work | ||||||
8 | as a teacher and FFA advisor, as well as his community service | ||||||
9 | and commitment to agriculture; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, John Kabat traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana with | ||||||
11 | his family to accept the award at a conference
for the National | ||||||
12 | Association of Agriculture Educators; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, John Kabat was encouraged to apply for the award | ||||||
14 | by MVTHS agriculture teacher, Cherie Rogier; his
application | ||||||
15 | was judged in State and regional
competitions before he was | ||||||
16 | selected as one of this year's winners; the winners can be from | ||||||
17 | a wide range of agricultural backgrounds and can come from a | ||||||
18 | high
school, a community college, a university, or the | ||||||
19 | agriculture industry; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, John Kabat is a farmer and lives in Scheller with | ||||||
21 | his wife, Marcia; they have 3 children, Jacob,
Erika, and |

1 | Alicia; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, John Kabat has taught at MVTHS since 1985 in | ||||||
3 | various agriculture-related subjects, as well as cooperative
| ||||||
4 | education; he also taught a semester at Rend Lake College while | ||||||
5 | he was getting his master's degree; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, In addition, John Kabat is involved with numerous | ||||||
7 | professional organizations, including the Illinois
and | ||||||
8 | National Corn Growers Association and the Illinois and American | ||||||
9 | Soybean Association; he has also
worked to promote the | ||||||
10 | interests of agriculture by staying in touch with senators, | ||||||
11 | representatives, and the
governor; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John Kabat is the past President and past | ||||||
13 | Vice-President of the Illinois Association of Vocational
| ||||||
14 | Agriculture Teachers; he also served on the Curriculum | ||||||
15 | Committee at the University of Illinois and the
Agriculture | ||||||
16 | Leadership Board at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale; | ||||||
17 | and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, John Kabat also serves on the Rend Lake College | ||||||
19 | Agriculture Advisory Council and the Rend Lake College Board of
| ||||||
20 | Trustees and had previously served on the Waltonville Community | ||||||
21 | High School Board of Education; and

1 | WHEREAS, John Kabat serves as an example of hard work, | ||||||
2 | passion, and dedication; his work throughout his
career has | ||||||
3 | benefited many in the agriculture community; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
5 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
6 | congratulate John Kabat, Mt.
Vernon Township High School | ||||||
7 | agriculture teacher, on receiving the National Agriculture | ||||||
8 | Service
Citation Award and we wish him the best in all his | ||||||
9 | future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to John Kabat as an expression of our
congratulations | ||||||
12 | and appreciation for a job well done.
