HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Marty Voelker of Downers 
4Grove North High School on receiving the Secondary Art Educator 
5of the Year award for 2015; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The annual award, given by the Illinois Art 
7Education Association (IAEA), recognizes a teacher's exemplary 
8contributions, service, and achievements in support of art 
9education in Illinois; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Marty Voelker started at Downers Grove South High 
11School in 1996 and has been with Downers Grove North since 
122001; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Marty Voelker has a bachelor's degree in economics 
14from the University of Michigan, a Teaching Certification from 
15the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, a Master of Arts in 
16Illustration from Syracuse University, and a Master of Fine 
17Arts from the Hartford Art School-University of Hartford, 
18Connecticut; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Marty Voelker serves as the head of the regional 
20suburban Chicago affiliate for the Scholastic Art Awards, as a 
21College of DuPage Advisory Committee Member for Graphic Design

1and Illustration, and as a juror for local arts shows and 
2competitions; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Marty Voelker grew up in Western Springs and 
4resides in Wheaton with his wife, Natalie, and his 3 daughters; 
5therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
8congratulate Marty Voelker of Downers Grove North High School 
9on receiving the Secondary Art Educator of the Year award for 
102015; and be it further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to Marty Voelker as an expression of our esteem and 
13respect.
