HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Reginald
4D. "Hats" Adams of Calumet Park; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Reginald Adams has been the Director of Community
6Affairs at Rush University Medical Center since 1974; prior to
7that he served as Community Liaison and Employee Relations
8Coordinator; he joined the Rush staff in 1968, when he was
9hired as Chief Youth Worker at the Mile Square Health Care
10Center; before working at Rush, he worked for the Chicago Boys
11and Girls Clubs; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Reginald Adams created S.A.M.E. (Science and Math
13Excellence Network) in 1990 and most recently served as
14President of its Board of Directors; S.A.M.E. is a member of
15the Partner for Education, a consortium of science-based
16institutions, construction companies, and community-based
17organizations that collaborate on assisting the community
18organizations with their science and math programs; Rush and
19its corporate partners sponsor after-school science clubs,
20provide judging at local science fairs, offer summer training
21programs for teachers and sponsor a mobile science lab that
22visits schools without laboratory facilities; in fiscal year
232010, 3,398 children and teens benefited from S.A.M.E.'s

1services; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Reginald Adams received numerous awards and
3honors throughout his career, including the Rush University
4Medical Center Patient Access Committee Community Service
5Award 2010, 2009, 2008; the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Life
6Achievement Award, 2008; the Rush University Medical Center
7Trustee Medal, 2007; the Feld Entertainment
8Circus-in-a-Classroom Award, 2006; the Illinois
9Business-Education Exemplary Partnership Award, 2002; the
10Lawndale Community Service Award, 2001; the Chicago Area
11Project Certificate of Appreciation Award, 2000; the Henry
12Horner Alumni Association Health and Education Award, 1997; the
13Westside Association for Community Action (WACA) Service
14Award, 1996; the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian
15Award, 1996; the YMCA Westside Association for Community Action
16Humanitarian Award, 1996; the YMCA Southside Chairman's
17Roundtable Member Community Service Award, 1996; the Malcom X
18College Student Development Award, 1995; the Hefferan
19Elementary School Project Canal Recognition Award, 1995; the
20Health Science Tech Program Award, 1994; the Hefferan
21Elementary School Commitment to Excellence in Education, 1992;
22the Black Contractors United Excellence in Community Service
23Award, 1982; the Chicago Boys Club Community Service Award,
241981; the Westside Organization, Inc. Community Service Leader
25Award, 1980; and the St. Matthews AME Church, Inc. Humanitarian

1of the Year Award, 1979; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Reginald Adams was preceded in death by his
3daughter, Regina Adams; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Reginald Adams is survived by his wife, Constance
5Adams; his children, Reginald L. Adams and Janice Adams; his 3
6sisters, Doris McKinnie, Leontine Jordan, and Arlene
7Bradley-Walton; his 2 brothers, Randolph Adams and Derrell
8Adams; his 6 grandchildren; and his 5 great-grandchildren;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12mourn the passing of Reginald D. "Hats" Adams, and extend our
13sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
14and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Reginald Adams as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
