HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jay
4Michael, who passed away on January 8, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jay Michael was born in Skokie on April 3, 1981;
6he attended Niles North High school; he earned English and
7American degrees from Richmond, The American International
8University in London; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jay Michael was a founding partner and Chief
10Creative Officer of CEDARst Companies; his first major
11publication was at the age of 23 from which he achieved
12widespread recognition for interior design excellence; his
13company successfully reused existing structures to the highest
14and best use in today's market; he redeveloped over 1,000,000
15square feet of space over the past 12 years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jay Michael's company, CEDARst, has been one of
17the most active developers of distressed assets in the Chicago
18market; under his leadership, the company received national
19notoriety with media and brand outlets such as Bloomberg, Bravo
20TV, CB2, Bloomingdales Home, Crain's Business, Chicago
21Sun-Times, Better Homes & Gardens, and Renovation Style; and

1    WHEREAS, Jay Michael served as a Board Trustee for
2Richmond, The American International University in London and
3was involved in several philanthropic organizations throughout
4Chicago, such as the Museum of Science and Industry,
5RefugeeONE, Common Threads, Heartland Alliance, and FLATS
6Studio; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Prior to entering the real estate business, Jay
8Michael worked for CNBC Europe's London Headquarters; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jay Michael enjoyed living healthy, philanthropy,
10antiquing, traveling, and food; he was cast as one of 6 members
11on "100 Days of Summer", a Bravo channel reality show in 2014;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jay Michael was a "lifestyle architect" and real
14estate developer in search of the world's best ways to live;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18mourn the passing of Jay Michael, and extend our sincere
19condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
20him; and be it further
