HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize the 100th anniversary of the 
4founding of St. John Missionary Baptist Church; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, In 1916, 11 people met with the purpose of 
6organizing a Baptist church in Fireworks Station, now known as 
7Centreville, and on March 17, 1916, a new church was formed; 
8and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, St. John Missionary Baptist Church serves the 
10community through
various outreach ministries that specialize 
11in providing services that help people
spiritually, 
12culturally, educationally, and mentally; as a result, it was 
13awarded former United States Senator William H. Danforth's "I 
14Dare
You" award;  the award recognizes a religious congregation

15over a 4-year period for its community outreach efforts to the 
16poor, homeless, elderly, and youth; and
  
 
  
17    WHEREAS, St. John Missionary Baptist Church plans to 
18continue to serve its community for the next 100 years with the 
19same faith and determination that it has for the previous 100 
20years; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, The members of St. John Missionary Baptist Church

1will celebrate the historic anniversary on March 20, 2016; 
2therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5recognize the 100th anniversary of the founding of St. John 
6Missionary Baptist Church and we wish it many more wonderful 
7years; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to St. John Missionary Baptist Church as an 
10expression of our esteem and respect.
