| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Patricia |
| 4 | | Ann Lewis of Chicago, who passed away on January 9, 2016; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis was born in Chicago to Nathan and |
| 6 | | Mamie Murray on January 6, 1942; she graduated from Wendell |
| 7 | | Phillips High School and later received her cosmetology license |
| 8 | | from the Unique Beauty School; she also obtained her Associate |
| 9 | | in Business; she married John Lewis in 1961; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis worked for the City of Chicago |
| 11 | | Department of Transportation, formally known as the Bureau of |
| 12 | | Curb and Gutter, where she was the executive administrative |
| 13 | | assistant for over 30 years; following her retirement, she |
| 14 | | worked at Lord & Taylor for 10 years; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis impacted the lives of many people |
| 16 | | by donating to women's shelters in communities of need almost |
| 17 | | every Christmas; she believed in the importance of the |
| 18 | | political process and for many years she served as an election |
| 19 | | judge; she also registered constituents in her community to |
| 20 | | vote; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis was affectionately known as "Nana" |
|

| 1 | | or "Patsy"; she loved family, and birthdays and holidays were |
| 2 | | her favorite times of the year; she enjoyed baking cakes and |
| 3 | | cookies and making detailed arrangements; she was a faithful |
| 4 | | member of the Original Wings of Faith Missionary Baptist |
| 5 | | Church; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis was preceded in death by her |
| 7 | | sisters, Rita and Toni, and her brother, Christopher; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis is survived by her 3 children, John |
| 9 | | (Rosamond), Cheryl (Jerald), and Diane (Jomo); her dear and |
| 10 | | loving friend, Otis "Grandpy" Walker; her godchild, Amber |
| 11 | | (Kelvin); her 6 grandchildren, Jasmine (Zeric), Eboni, |
| 12 | | Tiffany, Lauren, Martin, and Alyssa; her great-grandchild, |
| 13 | | Austin; her honorary grandchildren, Asia and Autumn; her |
| 14 | | sisters, Phyllis, Jacqueline, Bonita, Linda, and Michelle; her |
| 15 | | brothers, Nathan, Kenneth, and Michael; and a host of cousins, |
| 16 | | nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
|
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 19 | | mourn the passing of Patricia Ann Lewis, and extend our sincere |
| 20 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
| 21 | | her; and be it further
