| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Lawrence C. Burnson on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his retirement as Chief of the Homewood Police | ||||||
| 5 | Department on March 11, 2016; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Chief Burnson grew up in Chicago's Roseland | ||||||
| 7 | neighborhood, where he attended Mendel Catholic High School; he | ||||||
| 8 | has an associate's degree in law enforcement from South | ||||||
| 9 | Suburban College, a bachelor's degree in social justice from | ||||||
| 10 | Lewis University, and a master's degree in public | ||||||
| 11 | administration from DePaul University; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Chief Burnson began his law enforcement career at | ||||||
| 13 | the Matteson Police Department in May of 1974; during his | ||||||
| 14 | career in Matteson, he has served as a patrol officer, | ||||||
| 15 | investigator, sergeant, lieutenant, administrative aide, and | ||||||
| 16 | Deputy Chief of Police; in August of 1992, he was promoted to | ||||||
| 17 | the position of Chief of Police; on December 7, 2001, he | ||||||
| 18 | retired from the Matteson Police Department; on December 10, | ||||||
| 19 | 2001, he was appointed to the position of Chief of Police for | ||||||
| 20 | the Homewood Police Department; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, During his career in Homewood, Chief Burnson was | ||||||
| 22 | instrumental in the creation of the E-Com Dispatch Center, a | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | consolidated communications center which provides service for | ||||||
| 2 | police, fire, and EMS calls for 6 local municipalities; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Chief Burnson is an active member of the South | ||||||
| 4 | Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police, the Illinois | ||||||
| 5 | Association of Chiefs of Police, and the International | ||||||
| 6 | Association of Chiefs of Police; he served as the President of | ||||||
| 7 | the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police in 2007 and as | ||||||
| 8 | president of the South Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police | ||||||
| 9 | from 2000 to 2001; he has also served on the D.A.R.E. Executive | ||||||
| 10 | Law Enforcement Advisory Board; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Chief Burnson serves as a model of hard work, | ||||||
| 12 | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | ||||||
| 13 | Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 15 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 16 | congratulate Lawrence C. Burnson on the occasion of his | ||||||
| 17 | retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the | ||||||
| 18 | future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to Chief Burnson as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
| 21 | respect.
