HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Mary Barnett on the 
4occasion of her 80th birthday; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Barnett was born in Charleston, Mississippi 
6on February 7, 1936; she grew up on Chicago's west side and was 
7married for 33 years; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Mary Barnett retired from the Management Division 
9of Sears Corporate Headquarters in 1990 after 24 years of 
10service; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Mary Barnett served as a mentor to 7th grade 
12students at Johnson Elementary School and still keeps in touch 
13with some of them; she also served as an ombudsman for the 
14Department  of Aging from 1992 to 1994; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Mary Barnett is an active member of
the 15th 
16District Police Senior Steering Committee, the South Austin 
17Coalition Community Council, and the
West Suburban Fitness 
18Program; she lobbied with Service Employees International 
19Union to bring about justice for several causes; she is also a 
20member of Living Word Christian (greeters ministry);

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
2NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
3congratulate Mary Barnett on her 80th birthday and we wish her 
4many more wonderful years; and be it further
  
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
6presented to Mary Barnett as an expression of our esteem and 
7respect.
