HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Rabbi Michael R. Zedek on 
4the occasion of his retirement as Senior Rabbi of Emanuel 
5Congregation in Chicago; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Rabbi Zedek has been the spiritual leader at 
7Emanuel Congregation since July of 2004; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Before joining Emanuel Congregation, Rabbi Zedek 
9was the Chief
Executive Officer of the Jewish Federation of 
10Cincinnati (JFC) for four years; during his tenure, the JFC 
11received national
awards for innovative fundraising and 
12programming; prior to his service at the JFC, he was the Senior

13Rabbi of Temple B'nai Jehudah in Kansas City, Missouri for 26 
14years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rabbi Zedek was ordained in June of 1974; he was 
16chosen to be alumnus-in-residence at the Cincinnati and Los 
17Angeles campuses of Hebrew Union College, the youngest man to 
18receive this honor; he was also the recipient of the Danforth 
19Graduate Fellowship for Outstanding Teaching and a 
20Fulbright-Hays Grant for Advanced Study in the United Kingdom; 
21he is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, 
22New York; he was
also honored by the National Conference of

1Christians and Jews; and
 

  
2    WHEREAS, Rabbi Zedek has had numerous teaching and speaking 
3engagements around the world on a wide range of topics, 
4especially focusing on spirituality and folklore; he has taught 
5and lectured in South Africa, Russia, China, the former 
6Yugoslavia, Israel, and many other places; he is a regular 
7presenter at Rancho La Puerta and serves as the host the radio 
8show, "Religion on the Line", which has aired for over 20 
9years; therefore, be it
  
 

  
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
12congratulate Rabbi Michael R. Zedek on his retirement as Senior 
13Rabbi of Emanuel Congregation in Chicago, and we wish him the 
14best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to Rabbi Zedek as an expression of our esteem and 
17respect.
