HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate  Southern Illinois 
4University men's basketball head coach Barry Hinson on the 
5occasion of being named as the Missouri Valley Conference Coach 
6of the Year; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Barry Hinson is a 13-year veteran of the Missouri 
8Valley Conference; he coached for nine seasons at Missouri 
9State University and is in his fourth year at Southern Illinois 
10University; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Under Barry Hinson's leadership, the Salukis have 
12been the comeback story of the 2015-2016 season; picked to 
13finish ninth in the preseason poll, they posted an 11-2 
14non-conference record and an 11-7 league mark to finish tied 
15for fourth place with the University of Northern Iowa; the 
16team's 22 wins are the most since the 2007 Salukis team won 29 
17games and advanced to the Sweet 16; with a 22-9 overall record, 
18Southern Illinois University posted its first winning season 
19since 2008; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Barry Hinson's name is synonymous with the 
21Missouri Valley Conference; with a 231-183 overall mark and a 
22125-109 record in conference games, he is the fourth all-time

1coach in total wins and seasons as a league head coach; he is 
2also 13-11 in his 12 trips to Arch Madness and is the fifth 
3Saluki coach to win MVC Coach of the Year honors; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Barry Hinson edged out Wichita State University 
5head coach Gregg Marshall in the vote with 84 total points to 
6Marshall's 81 points to be named as the Missouri Valley 
7Conference Coach of the Year; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Barry Hinson serves as a model of hard work, 
9integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
10Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13congratulate Barry Hinson on the occasion of being named as the 
14Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year and wish him 
15continued success and happiness in the future; and be it

17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to Barry Hinson as a symbol of our esteem and 
19respect.
