HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ken
4Christy, who passed away on March 26, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ken Christy was born in Chicago on Spetember 18,
61944 and grew up in Bellwood; he was a resident of Aurora for
739 years; he graduated from Proviso West High School and
8attended Triton College, DePaul University, and the University
9of Illinois; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ken Christy worked as a letter carrier in Aurora
11for 31 years until his retirement in 2011; prior to becoming a
12letter carrier, he worked in retail management for a national
13grocery store chain; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ken Christy served as president for the local
15National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 219 in Aurora, a
16position that he held for 25 years; he continued his work as an
17advocate for letter carriers as president of the Illinois State
18Association of Letter Carriers until his passing; and
 
19    WHEREAS, As president of the National Association of Letter
20Carriers Branch 219 and the Illinois State Association of
21Letter Carriers, Ken Christy prioritized the letter carriers'

1annual food drive "Stamp Out Hunger" and support for the
2Muscular Dystrophy Association; he was also known for working
3tirelessly in his lobbying efforts on behalf of the union; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Ken Christy successfully ran for a four-year term
5for Aurora Township Clerk in 2013; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In 2012, Ken Christy was elected to the Illinois
7Hall of Fame for Letter Carriers in honor of his work; he was
8also awarded the Kane County Democrat Harry S. Truman Award in
92012; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ken Christy was a member of Our Lady of Good
11Council Catholic Church in Aurora; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ken Christy is survived by his wife of 52 years,
13Bonnie; his daughters, Kristin (Dion) Hadley, Kathleen (Ken)
14Steil, and Karrie (Dave) Campbell; his grandchildren, Sara
15Steil, Ken Steil III, Michael Squires, Jennifer Steil, and Ally
16Hadley; and his many nieces, nephews, and other relatives;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Ken
21Christy; and be it further
