2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Ruth E. Faklis on the |
4 | | occasion of her retirement as Director of the Prairie Trails |
5 | | Public Library District on May 1, 2016, after 26 years of |
6 | | service; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Faklis earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social |
8 | | Sciences from St. Xavier College in Chicago in 1974 and her |
9 | | Master of Librarianship from Rosary College in River Forest in |
10 | | 1978; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Faklis began serving as Director of the |
12 | | Prairie Trails Public Library District in Burbank in 1990; as |
13 | | Director, she was instrumental in numerous construction |
14 | | projects, referendums, budgets, and management issues, as well |
15 | | as long-range planning, facility planning, the development and |
16 | | implementation of policies and procedures, grant writing, |
17 | | public relations, and staff development; she also worked with |
18 | | Trustees, State and city officials, professional |
19 | | organizations, the Burbank Chamber of Commerce, and the |
20 | | American Cancer Society Board in the course of her work; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Faklis is a member of many civic |
22 | | organizations, including the Illinois Library Association, |
|

1 | | where she served as President from 1996 to 1997, the American |
2 | | Library Association, Reading Is Fundamental, the Illinois |
3 | | State Library Advisory Council, the American Cancer Society, |
4 | | the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, the United Hellenic |
5 | | American Congress - Chicago, the Hellenic Museum and Cultural |
6 | | Center, St. Spyridon Hellenic Orthodox Philoptochos, |
7 | | International Orthodox Christian Charities, and the Hellenic |
8 | | Foundation; she was also President-Elect of the LACON! |
9 | | Administrator's Section and an active member of the Suburban |
10 | | Library System Committees; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Prior to serving as Director of the Prairie Trails |
12 | | Public Library District, Ruth Faklis was employed at C. Berger & |
13 | | Company in Wheaton as a Special Librarian and Consultant; she |
14 | | also worked as a Media Specialist at Bremen Community High |
15 | | School District 228, Director of the Glen Ellyn Public Library, |
16 | | a consultant for the Suburban Library System in Burr Ridge, and |
17 | | a Teacher and Librarian at Oak Lawn-Hometown School District |
18 | | 123; and

19 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Faklis serves as a model of hard work, |
20 | | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of |
21 | | Illinois; therefore, be it

22 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
23 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
