HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Ruth E. Faklis on the occasion of her retirement as Director of the Prairie Trails Public Library District on May 1, 2016, after 26 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Faklis earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from St. Xavier College in Chicago in 1974 and her Master of Librarianship from Rosary College in River Forest in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Faklis began serving as Director of the Prairie Trails Public Library District in Burbank in 1990; as Director, she was instrumental in numerous construction projects, referendums, budgets, and management issues, as well as long-range planning, facility planning, the development and implementation of policies and procedures, grant writing, public relations, and staff development; she also worked with Trustees, State and city officials, professional organizations, the Burbank Chamber of Commerce, and the American Cancer Society Board in the course of her work; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Faklis is a member of many civic organizations, including the Illinois Library Association, where she served as President from 1996 to 1997, the American Library Association, Reading Is Fundamental, the Illinois State Library Advisory Council, the American Cancer Society, the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, the United Hellenic American Congress - Chicago, the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center, St. Spyridon Hellenic Orthodox Philoptochos, International Orthodox Christian Charities, and the Hellenic Foundation; she was also President-Elect of the LACON! Administrator's Section and an active member of the Suburban Library System Committees; and

WHEREAS, Prior to serving as Director of the Prairie Trails Public Library District, Ruth Faklis was employed at C. Berger & Company in Wheaton as a Special Librarian and Consultant; she also worked as a Media Specialist at Bremen Community High School District 228, Director of the Glen Ellyn Public Library, a consultant for the Suburban Library System in Burr Ridge, and a Teacher and Librarian at Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Faklis serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ruth E. Faklis on the occasion of her retirement and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ruth Faklis as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
