HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Christ Lutheran 
4School boys basketball team, the Comets, on winning the 2016 
5National Championship; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Comets swept through five
opponents the 
7weekend of March 18-20, 2016 to win the national championship 
8of the Lutheran Basketball
Association of America; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, The Comets clinched their fourth national title by 
10defeating Rockford Lutheran, 52-28, in the
championship game at 
11Valparaiso, Indiana; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, To reach the final, the Comets defeated Macomb 
13(Michigan), St. Peter's; Fort Wayne (Indiana),
St. Paul; 
14Torrance (California), First Lutheran; and Fort Wayne, Holy 
15Cross; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The team's closest encounter
was a 46-44 overtime 
17win over Torrance, First Lutheran in the quarterfinals; their 
18average margin of victory was 19 points; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, The Comets finished the 2015-16 season with 36 
20wins and 2 losses; and

7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
8NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
9congratulate the Christ Lutheran School boys basketball team, 
10the Comets, on winning the 2016 National Championship and we 
11wish them many more successful years; and be it further
  
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13presented to the Comets as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
