| 2 | | WHEREAS, During the 2015 Major League Baseball (MLB) |
| 3 | | season, several incidents occurred in which fans in the stands |
| 4 | | were struck by balls and shattered bats; some of these |
| 5 | | incidents have necessitated medical attention and |
| 6 | | hospitalization for those who were struck; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, MLB has recently issued a recommendation that all |
| 8 | | 30 teams erect protective netting in front of the most exposed |
| 9 | | field-level seats from one dugout to the other dugout; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Some of MLB's teams already have netting down the |
| 11 | | first and third base lines; most of the teams that do not |
| 12 | | currently have netting in place are expected to comply by |
| 13 | | opening day of the 2016 season; however, not all teams have |
| 14 | | expressed plans to install netting; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, The current options include netting which is |
| 16 | | translucent enough to continue to provide the close-up |
| 17 | | experience that spectators have come to enjoy and still enhance |
| 18 | | safety; therefore, be it

| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 20 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 21 | | encourage all 30 Major League Baseball teams to have protective |
