HOUSE RESOLUTION

2    WHEREAS, During the 2015 Major League Baseball (MLB)
3season, several incidents occurred in which fans in the stands
4were struck by balls and shattered bats; some of these
5incidents have necessitated medical attention and
6hospitalization for those who were struck; and

7    WHEREAS, MLB has recently issued a recommendation that all
830 teams erect protective netting in front of the most exposed
9field-level seats from one dugout to the other dugout; and

10    WHEREAS, Some of MLB's teams already have netting down the
11first and third base lines; most of the teams that do not
12currently have netting in place are expected to comply by
13opening day of the 2016 season; however, not all teams have
14expressed plans to install netting; and

15    WHEREAS, The current options include netting which is
16translucent enough to continue to provide the close-up
17experience that spectators have come to enjoy and still enhance
18safety; therefore, be it

19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21encourage all 30 Major League Baseball teams to have protective
