HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to recognize eight years of
4partnership and cooperation between the Canton Park District
5and the Department of Natural Resources; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Canton Park District manages 1,403 acres of
7open space to enhance the quality of life within the community;
8it has seen steady growth in both land holdings and facility
9development; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Canton Park District serves a base population
11of 17,000 individuals, and offers many unique and varied
12recreational opportunities to meet the leisure needs of its
13constituents; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Canton Park District offers many recreational
15activities, including a one-half mile hiking trail, an
16accessible playground, and a facility for the annual Central
17Illinois Youth Goose Hunt, which gives kids an opportunity to
18help the community reduce the local goose population with the
19help of local hunters; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lakeland Park is an example of positive
21cooperation between local, State, and federal agencies and the

1private sector; the park is a showcase of the recreational
2potential of reclaimed coal strip-mined lands; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Fulton County has a rich history as a major coal
4mining area and has been a beacon of conservation; Lakeland
5Park now contains over 5 miles of hiking trails, picnic
6shelters, fishing opportunities, scuba diving, and natural
7areas because of the partnership between the Department of
8Natural resources and the Canton Park District; therefore, be
9it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12recognize the Canton Park District's outstanding performance
13and its eight years of partnership and cooperation with the
14Illinois Department of Natural Resources; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the Canton Park District and its members as a
17symbol of our respect and esteem.
