HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Richard
4Powell, Jr. on April 5, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was born in Indianapolis,
6Indiana to Leona McDonald and Richard Powell, Sr. on September
730, 1931; he attended Crispus Attucks High School and was an
8honor roll student; he joined the United States Air Force in
9August of 1950 and served until September of 1953; and
 
10    WHEREAS, After the Korean War, Richard Powell, Jr.
11participated in the sport of boxing, becoming known as "Dick
12the Stick"; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was a member of The Word
14Evangelistic Church; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was preceded in death by his
16parents; his siblings, Jessie (Mary Barbara) McDonald, Floyd
17(Loreen) Walton, and Berniece Walton; his son, Orlando Powell;
18his grandchildren, Hinisha and Sasha; his niece, Terri; and his
19special friend, O'neal; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. is survived by his three

1daughters, Gloria (Walter) Jones, Carmenda Staple, and Latwan
2(James) Harry; his stepchildren, Kim, Millitye, Nicole, Tanya,
3and Keith; his grandchildren, Shaleandra, Shamirah, Vernisha,
4Walter, Kenya, Kenny, Antwon, Lloyd, James Jr., Kiana, Lil
5Jeremiah, Jeremiah, Geremiah, Keanquntrell, Orlando Jr.,
6Marlando, Terrance, Derrick, and Lawanda; his nieces, Karen,
7Adriane, Janine, and Talja; his two nephews, Jessie Jr. and
8Randall; his 21 great-grandchildren; and his special friends,
9Donald, Chuck, and Apache; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12mourn the passing of Richard Powell, Jr., and extend our
13sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
14and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Richard Powell, Jr. as an expression
17of our deepest sympathy.
