HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In 2014, the Key Club at Glenbrook South High School held its first annual "Random Act of Kindness Week"; and

WHEREAS, The Key Club encouraged students to do one nice thing for someone each day; some of the random acts of kindness included buying coffee for the person behind them in line, holding the door open, giving a friend a hug, and passing out baked goods; and

WHEREAS, In 2015, the students of Glenbrook South High School expanded their efforts; they raised money to help buy groceries for families in need and gave money to a school janitor to give to a charity in his hometown in Mexico; students partnered with the Glenview Park District and Library to offer Random Act of Kindness Week challenges to community members and went outside of school to share kindness with others in the community; student athletes volunteered with a variety of charitable organizations, other clubs gift-wrapped presents collected at Glenview Village Hall, and the school band performed a concert, with all of the proceeds going to the Northfield Township Food Pantry; students also helped fulfill the holiday wishes of needy elementary school children; and

WHEREAS, The efforts of the students at Glenbrook South High School to spread kindness and compassion throughout their community is worthy of the greatest respect; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate December 11 through December 17, 2016 as "Random Act of Kindness Week" in the State of Illinois in honor of the great work done by the students of Glenbrook South High School in spreading kindness throughout their community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the students of Glenbrook South High School as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
